How to Switch to Yahoo Mail Classic from the New Yahoo Beta Mail ?

The Simplest one is mentioned here but Please read the comments below the post- lot of ways have been mentioned to switch back to Yahoo Mail Classic !

Steps :

1) Disable Java Script in your Browser !

2) Open Yahoo Mail ! ; It will say something like “Javascript not enables, do you want to Switch Back to Yahoo Mail Classic” or something like that !

3) GO Ahead and do that !

4) (optional) Enable Java Script !

Enjoy the Yahoo Mail Classic ! 🙂

PS : After enabling Java Script, if at a later stage, if the New Yahoo Mail shows up, don’ worry Just repeat the above process ! I personally had to do it 10 – 15 times and after which the New Yahoo Mail never showed up !

This technique mentioned below does not work anymore !

Yahoo has now introduced yet another Mail beta which is largely better that the previous. But, in case you want to switch back Mail Classic – the procedure is a little different now. Earlier, there was an option below the Yahoo Mail Beta Icon, “Switch to Mail Classic. But now this has moved to Help Menu at the top left. Click on the drop down to find an option called “Return to Original Mail“. The snapshot below will help you understand things better.

There IS an answer to this, because I too was pissed and searching for help. I found it here:

      http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At_iV7C3tgY50fbaxC04RJsjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20110814212814AAh1PMz

To go back to YAHOO! MAIL CLASSIC…

Turn off Javascript – you’ll then be asked if you want to return to Mail Classic, click “yes”.

If you don’t know how to turn off Javascript…

For SAFARI: Open SETTINGS>click PREFERENCES>>click SECURITY>>Uncheck ENABLE JAVA and ENABLE JAVASCRIPT

IMPORTANT:Remember to RE-ENABLE JAVA and JAVASCRIPTING back ON when you are back in Mail Classic because without it some mail functions won’t work.

For IE: Open TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS >> SECURITY. In security click “CUSTOM LEVEL” -> disable active scripting in the scripting section.

IMPORTANT:Remember to turn JAVASCRIPTING back ON when you are back in Mail Classic because without it some mail functions won’t work.

For FIREFOX: Open TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> CONTENT, click on “DISABLE JAVASCRIPT”. Now hit F5 to refresh the page while you are in Yahoo! email in order to switch back… In the options, click (PERMANENT) to switch back to YAHOO! Classic. DO NOT click the “ONE TIME ONLY” option.

IMPORTANT: Turn JAVASCRIPT back ON once you have your “CLASSIC” account back.

      HI Linda

      Try this :
To at least get back to Mail Classic: lower your screen resolution, and as soon as it’s too low for the new mail, you will get a message displayed asking if you want to switch to Mail Classic. Click “yes”. Of course you can switch back to your original screen resolution once you have mail classic back..:-)

    Tony Says:

It IS possible to revert to the previous version of Yahoo Mail. Here’s how….
    1) Right-click on the desktop.
    2) Click on Screen Resolution
    3) Reduce the Resolution to 800×600 and press OK. Keep changes.
    4) Sign into Yahoo Mail.
    5) After a few seconds, a message will come up, saying there is a problem with the resolution.
    6) Scroll down and you will find an option to change back to the previous version of YahooMail
    7) Click the option and Hey Presto!
    8) Revert your screen resolution back to it’s highest settings and you’re done.

    Remember:
Changing the screen resolution will very likely rearrange your desktop icons and you will have to resort them after you went through the steps listed above.

      Herb Says:

The lowering of the screen resolution does work…try it again. (WinXP)

      1. Make sure you are logged out of mail and your browser.

      2. Right click anywhere on your desktop. A pane will appear and
      choose “Properties”.

      3. A “Display Properties” box should appear. Click on Settings tab.

      4. Slide the Screen resolution bar LEFT to 800 X 600 pixels.
Remember the original settings before sliding bar LEFT.

      5. Press Apply and OK. Your desktop, icons, and windows will all
      appear huge.

6 Open your browser and log into your mail. You will have to be creative
to navigate through the “large” icons and windows.

      7. Once you have logged in to your Yahoo email you will receive a message
saying your screen resolution will not work with the current mail.
You will be given a choice to return to the old Classic Yahoo mail.

      8. Choose to return and “Classic” email should now appear before you.
Now close your Yahoo Classic email and browser.

      9. Now right click anywhere on your desktop, as you did in step 2 above,
and return to the “Display properties” box.

      10. Go to “Settings” tab, slide the screen resolution bar back to the original
position you remembered in step “D” above. Press Apply and OK.

      11. You should now have your original screen resolution before you
started this procedure. Open your browser and email and you should
now have Yahoo “Classic” email back, each and every time.

      Cheers

one more solution to switch back to yahoo classic is:
Change you screen resolution to 800*600
Try to login again on yahoo mail,This time it will ask you to change the screen resolution to proceed and will also give options at the right bottom to go back to older version once or permanently. So do select the second option.
Now change the screen resolution to original settings and log in again on yahoo. And you are done. 🙂

    Mike R. Says:

Once you get your old Yahoo Mail back, protect yourself for next time.
Open your Yahoo inbox, and put that page in favorites. Make a desktop icon with that favorite and also email that favorite to every web mail account you have [for me it was Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, Charter]. Wife or girlfriend? Use her’s too. That way if you ever lose you desktop icon by accident, HD failure, etc, you can always get to any of your web mails and bingo, a new [old] icon is reborn from those hidden url’s.
    T’care,
    Mike

  67. 167
    Mike R. Says:

The main reason I cannot use the new Yahoo is because it no longer shows the file size of each email at a glance in the inbox [far right]. This is critical for me because several people on my daily mailing list are [honest to God] still are stuck with dial up way out in the sticks with no broadband available whatsoever. Any mailing over 1.5mb cannot be sent to them. And having to open each and every email to first find it’s size is totally unacceptable for me. Have no idea why they dropped that file size feature.

This information is outdated. The newest version of this wretched Yahoo Beta Mail took out the “Retrun To Original Mail” off of the help section. And there appears to be no way of getting back to the more reliable and user-friendly Yahoo Classic Mail, and believe me, I’ve been ckecking every angle. I am very disappointed in Yahoo. It seems as though they don’t want to give people a choice. They’re making it very hard to stay with them.

    About halfway down you’ll see
“What if I don’t want to upgrade to the newest version of Yahoo! Mail?”
The next link (in blue) says “click here to use Yahoo! Mail Classic.”

BE AWARE that when you click that link it INSTANTLY changes you back to Classic Mail with no further warning.

I have previously reverted back to YaHoo Classic. On these emails when I login I am taken directly to my mailbox.
My YaHoo accounts I have just reverted respond differently when I log in. On these accounts when I log in I am taken to the YaHoo homepage. I must “click” the mail button in the upper right hand corner of the page to enter my mail box.
Does anyone have a method for setting my emails to avoid the homepage upon login and go directly to my mailbox?

      Mike Reilly Says:

      Sure Brenda,
Open the inbox page you want. Add that page to your favorites. Now, go into your favorites and right click that new favorite you just made. Click “send to”, click “Desktop [create shortcut]”. That should give you a new icon on you desktop screen. Always use that icon to open your Yahoo mail and you should open with your inbox every time. Rename it as desired. Mine is “My Yahoo inbox”.

    Nikki Says:

Messenger in Yahoo! Mail Classic to be shut down!!!

At Yahoo!, we’re focused on making your daily habits more inspiring and entertaining. That means we’re constantly reviewing our products and experiences and in some cases, have to make tough decisions to no longer support a product.

After much thought, we have decided to shut down Messenger in Yahoo! Mail Classic by March 22, 2013. This means that you will no longer be able to send IMs to your contacts from Yahoo! Mail Classic.

Please note that you still have two possible ways to use Yahoo! Messenger:

Upgrade to the new Yahoo! Mail, where Messenger continues to be available. You can then send IMs directly from your inbox, as you did before.
Use the Yahoo! Messenger client. If you don’t already have it, you can download the Yahoo! Messenger client here.

This has worked for me for a long time, but now every time I try to do a search, which was one of the main reasons for not switching because the search cannot be refined anymore, but now they won’t let me complete the search without giving me a page urging me to switch to the new Yahoo! email.

That was the worse thing they ever did with the new Yahoo!, stop the search from being refined. if one wants to find an email they sent to “John” for example, they must now just input “John” and every single time the name john is mentioned in any email whatsoever it comes up in the search!

So, instead of getting one or two results, there may be hundreds! This is just sooooooo stupid!

Not working anymore. Searched through many sites. Same tricks, none working. Then found some comments in the following article & I’m temporarily back to Classic Yahoo mail: http://www.technogadge.com/how-to-switch-back-to-yahoo-mail-classic/ But looks like soon that will be removed too.

Anyway, Yahoo will soon disable everything.

I have been having a terrible time with the new Yahoo when forwarding links and photos. The links end up dead when they land at the other end [even the usual highlighting the link, then right clicking to open does not work. The links are just plain dead]. Often, the photos just are not received at all. I am probably going to move everything over to Hotmail/Outlook and shut the Yahoo account down. I really have no choice if Yahoo Mail is not reliable nor dependable anymore. Thank you G Praveen Kumar for the years of help!! Blessings to you.
